WICHITA, Kan. – Friends University head athletic trainer Robin Johnson has been selected as the 2025-26 KCAC Head Athletic Trainer of the Year, the conference office announced today (June 19).
Having just completed his 25th year at Friends and 23rd year as head athletic trainer, Johnson has become a staple for the entire athletic department.
"Robin is a true professional and one of the best people you will ever meet," said Dr. Rob Ramseyer, Friends University VP of Athletics & Strategic Expansion. "For twenty-five years he has cared for our student-athletes, visiting teams, and the families at our events, treating everyone with dignity and respect. He leads without ever needing the spotlight, develops the athletic trainers around him, and holds people accountable in a way they respect. We couldn't be more excited to see him recognized with KCAC Athletic Trainer of the Year."
While overseeing all 24 varsity sports at Friends as head athletic trainer, Johnson specifically focuses on providing coverage for the Falcon cross country and track & field teams.
But his most important contribution this past season didn't occur on any playing surface, as Johnson's quick action was responsible for helping save a man's life following a medical emergency at the Falcons' home track meet back in April.
Also the 2014-15 KCAC Athletic Trainer of the Year, Johnson once served as the President of the KCAC Athletic Trainers committee and also the Vice President of the NAIA-ATA for three years.
Prior to arriving at Friends, Johnson was the head athletic trainer at fellow KCAC member McPherson College for two seasons.
"I am honored to receive this award and humbled to have worked with so many great people during my 27 years in this conference," said Johnson. "The KCAC leads in providing quality healthcare to student athletes and is full of countless hard-working athletic trainers who deserve a spotlight as well. Athletic trainers who work in small school environments understand that the commitment sometimes means long hours and late-night phone calls. But most do it because they love their job and most importantly the student-athletes. I am grateful for my talented staff that includes Kyler King, Serena Lytle, Zoey Lee and Desirae Reed."
