WICHITA, Kan. – Friends University senior outfielder Bernie Socarras has earned his second KCAC Baseball Player of the Week award this season, announced today (Apr. 13) by the conference office. All KCAC Player of the Week awards are sponsored by Athletic Solutions.
A native of Hobbs, N.M., Socarras batted .615 with a home run and 11 RBIs while posting a .684 on base percentage and slugging 1.077 to lead the Falcons to a perfect 4-0 record on the week and extend the team's winning streak to nine games. The nine-game win streak is the Falcons' longest since also winning nine consecutive games during the shortened 2020 season.
His homer was a three-run blast in the third inning that put the Falcons on top 3-0 in the series finale vs. Bethany that they went on to win 13-1 and complete the sweep.
Socarras leads the Falcons and is fifth in the KCAC in batting average (.401) while hitting six home runs, driving in 48 runs and posting a team-high .526 on base percentage for the season.
"Another great week for Bernie, after a slow start he has been incredibly productive for us," said Friends baseball head coach Adam Neisius. "Bernie hits for power, average, and leads our team in stolen bases.... very talented young man!"
Socarras has helped the Falcons to the second spot in the KCAC with a 19-10 conference record and a 25-18 overall mark. Friends will next host Sterling College tomorrow (Apr. 14) at 4 pm at Westside Athletic Field.
