Wichita, Kan. - The Friends University Falcons concluded a three game sweep over Bethany on Saturday (Apr. 11). The Falcons had a dominant late-inning surge to defeat Bethany College, 13-1.
After a scoreless first two innings, Friends broke through in the 3rd when Bernie Socarras launched a three-run home run to give the Falcons an early 3-0 advantage. This would be Socarras' 6th home run of the season, hitting it out with two outs in the 3rd.
The Falcons maintained control behind strong pitching, keeping Bethany off the board through the first four innings. Raleigh Clark set the tone on the mound with his 11th start of the season. Clark worked five innings while allowing just one run and striking out seven to earn the win.Â
Friends put the game out of reach in the eighth inning, erupting for 10 runs on a flurry of hits and aggressive base running. Elijah Morales hit a walk-off grand slam to achieve the mercy rule for the Falcons. Morales would tally his team leading 11th home run of the season.Â
The Falcons tallied 13 runs on 11 hits in the contest, with multiple players contributing to the offensive outburst.Â
Morales and Socarras led the way offensively, each homering and combining for seven RBIs, while Miles Hartman added a multi-hit performance and drove in two runs.Â
Bethany managed just four hits in the afternoon and scored its lone run in the fifth inning, as the Falcons' pitching staff controlled the game throughout.Â
With the win, Friends continues to be on fire in conference play, using power hitting and a decisive late rally to secure the series finale. Friends win streak is now up to 9 with this win and it is their 5th win from a mercy rule this season.Â
After seven straight home games, the Falcons have won all of them by big margins. They have outscored their opponents 88-23 with a +65 run differential in this current home stand.Â
Friends (25-18) KCAC (19-10) currently sits at #2 in the KCAC standings as of Saturday (Apr. 11). The Falcons have four more home games left on this home stand and they will take on Sterling on Tuesday (Apr. 14). First pitch will be at 4:00 PM at West Side Athletic Field.
