Wichita, Kan. - Friends University Falcons baseball extended their winning streak to 11 games on Friday afternoon (Apr. 17) shutting out the University of Saint Mary 10-0, in KCAC action.
There were a little bit of weather issues in this solo bout. Over an hour of delay due to rain and hail caused this game to resume later in the day. Once the game resumed back in the 7th, the Falcons used their two out hitting to complete the shutout and walk-off the Spires with a run rule.
Friends jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, plating two runs in the first inning behind RBI efforts from Elijah Morales and Hudson Sharp. The Falcons added single runs in the second, third, and fourth innings to steadily build a 5-0 advantage.
On the mound, Brett Black delivered a dominant performance, tossing a complete-game shutout. The right-hander allowed just two hits while striking out six and walking one, keeping the Spires off balance all afternoon. Black was perfect throughout 4 ? innings in his brilliant performance.
The Falcons broke the game open in the seventh inning, scoring five runs on a string of timely hits. Xavier Champ, Miles Hartman, Camden Miller, and Bernie Socarras each drove in runs during the frame to extend the lead to 10-0 and put the contest out of reach.
Offensively, Friends tallied 12 hits, with Hartman, Miller, and Socarras each recording multi-hit performances. Morales also added two hits and two RBIs, continuing his strong stretch at the plate.
The Falcons still sit at #2 in the KCAC standings with the win. This was the 6th game where the Falcons have won by a mercy rule. With each win the Falcons grab, it will extend their longest winning streak in the modern era.
