Softball splits doubleheader against (RV) Ottawa

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Ottawa, Kan. - Friends softball went up the road to take on the Ottawa Braves (RV) for a doubleheader at Alumni Field. This series would be very important for the Falcons as they look to climb the KCAC standings as they are sitting in the middle of the pack currently with a 4-4 conference record.

Game 1

The Braves would get off to a great start on their first pitch in the bottom of the 1st. Abby Bellamy took her first pitch over the wall in left field to give Ottawa a quick 1-0 lead.

Jenna Ormiston who would pitch all six innings for the Falcons and would settle in after the home run. Ormiston would only allow one more hit the rest of the game, and strike out three Braves hitters. Ormiston was efficient with pitch location and relying on the Falcon defense behind her to make plays.

In the 4th inning the Falcons would get their bats moving. Cambell Riordan would lead off the inning with a double, Zoie Redgate would come in to run for Riordan. Tamara Lozoya drove in Redgate with a double down the left field line. The Falcons would tie the game 1-1.

The bottom of the 5th for the Braves would be the pivotal inning in game one. Tori Farnham would hit an RBI double to give the Braves a lead 2-1 after the 5th inning.

Ottawa's starting pitcher Lanie Becker would pitch a complete game against the Falcons. Becker gave up one earned run, gave up three hits and struck out two. Ottawa would win game one, winning 2-1 giving Becker the win.

Game 2

In game two Ezra Arredondo would be the starter for the Falcons, and had one of the best pitching performances of the year against Ottawa. Arredondo would throw a complete game only allowing two hits while striking out two batters. Arredondo would shut out the Braves as well, with tons of great Falcons defensive plays behind her to support the shutout.

The top of the 4th is where the Falcons offense got aggressive. Cambell Riordan would lead off the inning with a single to left. Ezra Arredondo advanced Riordan to third with a single for herself. After the Falcons hit into a double play there would be runners on 2nd and 3rd for Raeleen Hernandez. Hernandez would shoot a single up the middle to score both runs and put the Falcons in front 2-0.

Ezra Arredondo would close out the game in the 7th and give her the complete game shutout win. This is Arredondo's 2nd shutout of the year for the Falcons which also matches the team total.

Softball's record is now (15-14) one game over .500. Friends will get right back into action on Monday (Mar. 30) for a doubleheader against No. 14 Evangel in Springfield. The first game of the doubleheader will start at 1:00 PM.
