Box Score 2 WICHITA, Kan. -- The Friends University Falcons moved above the .500 mark for the season with a sweep today (Mar. 24) over the Tabor College Bluejays in KCAC action at Two Rivers Youth Complex. The Falcons, now 14-13 overall and 4-4 in the KCAC, won the first game 9-2 and then the second outing 11-7.
In the first inning,
Cambell Riordan hit her fourth home run of the season to right field, bringing in
Marina Roman after her walk, giving the Falcons an early 2–0 lead. By the end of the third inning, they extended their lead when
Regan Witt singled to right field, allowing
Izzy Jones to score to make it 3-0.
In the fourth inning, Roman scored on a sacrifice fly by Riordan before
Tamara Lozoya also launched her fourth homer, a three-run blast to right center, which scored
Ezra Arredondo and
Peyton Ganger. Jones then singled and stole second and eventually scored on Witt's single to increase the Falcon lead to 8-0.
In the fifth inning, Tabor responded with a two-run homer by pinch hitter Mylee Milne, making the score 8–2. The Falcons countered with another run in the bottom half, as Arredondo walked with the bases loaded, allowing Roman to score another run to finish off the scoring.
Roman scored three runs and reached base three times, including twice on walks. Riordan collected three RBIs and Lozoya also drove in three runs for the Falcons.
Jenna Ormiston pitched a complete game, allowing only two earned runs and striking out four batters over 7 innings.
In the first inning of the nightcap, the Falcons capitalized on three walks to load the bases, leading to Roman scoring on a sacrifice fly by
Teagan Moreno and Ganger scoring on a sacrifice fly by Lozoya to provide the Falcons with an early 2-0 lead.
Tabor's Khily Brower hit a home run as part of a six-run explosion for the Bluejays in the third, but the Falcons had a stout response in the bottom of the frame, getting a double by Lozoya that scored Riordan, a single by Jones that brought in two more runs, and another RBI double from Witt plus a sacrifice fly by Ganger to fuel a seven-run frame and make it 9-6.
In the fourth,
Raeleen Hernandez's RBI single added another run for the Falcons, extending their lead to four runs at 10–6. The fifth inning saw an insurance run added to the tally with Jones hitting an infield single to drive in Riordan for the Falcons' 11th run.
That was more than enough for
Ainsley McGill, who came on in relief of Arredondo and pitched 4.2 strong innings of relief, allowing just a solo homer to Raegan Hammons in the seventh while striking out two and walking none.
Lozoya delivered a strong performance with two doubles and two RBIs in the second game for Friends. Jones recorded three hits, two RBIs, and scored once. Riordan added two hits and crossed the plate twice, with Hernandez finishing with three hits and one RBI.
Hammons scored three runs and drove in two for the Bluejays (12-14, 4-6 KCAC). Brea Grimsley had two hits and a run scored, with Milne contributing three hits for Tabor.
The Falcons will next play at a series at (RV) Ottawa University on Saturday (Mar. 28) starting at 1 pm in Ottawa, Kan.
