WICHITA, Kan. – Friends University sophomore Tiyna Ridge has been selected as the KCAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced today (Mar. 24). All KCAC Player of the Week awards are sponsored by Equity Bank.
Ridge had the best performance of her career this past weekend at the TCU Alumni Invitational that featured a stacked field with multiple NCAA D-I competitors.
The Edmond, Okla. native set a new school record in the 100 meter run with a time of 11.68 that hit the NAIA A Standard and is currently the top mark in the KCAC and tied for second in the NAIA.
Ridge also competed in the 4 X 100 relay for the Falcons and helped the team run a 47.89, just shy of the national qualifying standard of 47.52.
"Tiyna has overcome so much adversity to get to this weekend where we know we have a full outdoor season ahead of us," said Friends track & field head coach Henry Brun. "Her healthiness showed, breaking the school record and qualifying for nationals in the 100m right out the gate. I have been impressed with her leadership of the short sprints group as well."
Ridge and the Falcons will next compete at the ESU Relays on Mar. 27-29 at Emporia State University in Emporia, Kan.
