Falcons Finish with a Split in Day 2 of Falcon Invitational

Game 1: Midland vs. Friends (KS) - March 2, 2025

Wichita, Kan. - Falcon Softball fell to Midland 5-2 in their second game of the Friends Falcon Invitational. After an early 2-0 lead, Friends struggled to hold off Midland's offense as they were unable to recover after the third inning when Midland took the lead with 3 runs. Riley Wertz went 4.2 innings, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits while also striking out 8. The Falcon pitching staff did their best to limit the damage, but Midland's offense pushed for the win. Campbell Petrick earned the win for Midland, throwing a complete game, allowing just 2 runs on 7 hits with 4 strikeouts.

Offensively, Alex Vick went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Becca Dunn and Elena Montoya also added hits to the team's effort. However, Midland's key hitters were Reese Floro, who went 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Matti Reiling, who also chipped in with 3 hits with 2 being RBIs. Despite Friends' solid defense and a good effort at the plate, Midland capitalized on timely hits and executed well throughout the game, securing a 5-2 victory.

Game 2: Doane (NE) vs. Friends (KS) - March 2, 2025

Friends (KS) edged out Doane (NE) 6-5 in a close inning by inning game, securing the win with a strong offensive performance. The game was tied at 3-3 going into the bottom of the fifth inning, but Friends pulled ahead with three runs in the fifth. Jenna Ormiston picked up the win for Friends, throwing 5 innings while allowing 3 earned runs on 11 hits.  Doane's Faith Molina took the loss after 5.1 innings of work, giving up 6 runs on 12 hits.

Becca Dunn led Friends' offensive charge, going 2-for-4 with a home run and 2 RBIs. Teagan Moreno also contributed, driving in 2 RBIs in the win. Lexy Melo came up to the plate with 2 outs, driving in the winning run with an single to right field, sealing the Falcon victory.  For Doane, Anna Prauner went 1-for-4 with an RBI, and Marisa Marquez also drove in a run

The Falcons will be back in action tomorrow, still at home against the Missouri Valley Vikings at 2:00PM!
