Piedmont, Okla. – Falcon softball battled hard today, but fell in both games of their doubleheader against Southern Nazarene University on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons struggled to contain SNU's offense in Game 1, falling 9-1, before dropping a tightly contested 7-6 matchup in Game 2.
Game 1: Southern Nazarene 9, Friends 1
Southern Nazarene wasted no time, plating three runs in the first inning and adding four more in the third to take a commanding lead. The Crimson Storm capitalized on key hits, including a two-run triple by E. Swearingen and a two-RBI double from L. Heshiki.
Friends managed to get on the board in the fourth inning when B. Dunn drove in P. Mora with a sacrifice fly, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit. The Falcons struggled to generate offense against SNU pitcher Katelyn Woodard, who tossed four solid innings to secure the win.
Game 2: Southern Nazarene 7, Friends 6
The second game was a back-and-forth battle, with Friends taking an early lead in the third inning behind a two-run single from B. Dunn. However, Southern Nazarene responded quickly with a pair of runs in the bottom half, tying the game.
A wild fourth inning saw the Falcons surge ahead as T. Lozoya's RBI double and E. Montoya's run-scoring single gave Friends a 6-4 advantage. But SNU once again had an answer, plating two in the fifth before delivering the go-ahead run in the sixth on a L. Heshiki RBI single.
Despite a strong effort from J. Ormiston in the circle, who went six innings while allowing seven runs (four earned), Friends couldn't push across a tying run in the final frame.
The Falcons will look to bounce back in their next matchup, against Newman University on Valentines Day as they continue non-conference play.
