WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons knocked off the Northwestern College Raiders 9-2 in the second game of a doubleheader to secure their third series victory in three tries today (Feb. 10) at West Side Athletic Field. The Falcons fell 3-1 in the first game.
Trailing 2-0 in the first inning of the nightcap, Carlos Rodriguez brought the Falcons back with his third homer of the season in the bottom of the first and then an RBI single that plated Melwin Perez to tie the game in the third.
Spencer Davidson then launched his first career homer in the fourth, a three-run blast that ignited a five-run frame.
Buster Hardman also had an infield RBI single in a two-run fifth inning that put it away for the Falcons.
Rodriguez finished with three RBIs and went 2-of-3 at the plate in the second game win for Friends. Perez, Hardman and Tyler Godfrey also had a pair of hits and Zeke Henson scored two runs.
The Falcons (8-2) got a strong start from Nolan Crumrine, as the Sedgwick, Kan. native pitched a seven-inning complete game and gave up just two earned runs with four strikeouts and no walks.
Sam Stanford, Devin Dirkx and Brody Ayers each had two hits for the Raiders (1-2).
The opening game saw Brad Turnow blank the Falcons over five innings with four strikeouts to get the win.
RBI singles from Dirkx and TJ Silliman in the second inning put Northwestern on the board and Luke Wroblewski had an RBI triple in the seventh for a 3-0 game.
DJ Killion then scored on a sacrifice fly by Caleb Coats in the seventh to help the Falcons avoid the shutout.
Zeke Henson went 2-of-3 at the plate and Daniel Jaime allowed three runs and struck out three in six innings. Preston Lewis then pitched a scoreless seventh.
The Falcons will next be at Oklahoma City University Tuesday (Feb. 13) at 2 pm.
