WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons began the 2026-27 season with a solid second-place result at their Fall Women's Invite at the Tallgrass CC in Wichita.

Park University (Mo.) won the tournament at +65, with the Falcons in second at +87 as a team.

In her first career tournament as a Falcon, Jessica Applegarth made an immediate impression with a second-place individual showing. Applegarth finished +13, just one stroke behind first-place Micaela Suhl of Park.

Victoria Hofmann, the 2025-26 KCAC Women's Golf Player of the Year, came in tied for seventh at +20.

Hannah Tri (+26) finished tied for 14th and Sydney Chapman (+31) was tied for 21st. Rylin Wells was tied for 27th, while Shia Solis-Holder (36th, +58) and Hannah Doremus (41st, +86) competed as individuals for the Falcons.

"I believe our team took a huge step forward as a program at our Tallgrass Tournament," said Friends women's golf head coach Scott Moshier.

"We had team members who played some of the best golf of their careers on the first day, only to come back on the second day and, in their own words, play some of their worst rounds. But here's what I told one particular player who experienced that swing:

What you did for this team on day one helped set us up for what we accomplished as a team on day two. And then I told her something I believe is even more important:

What I saw was your transition from being a great player to becoming a great teammate.

That is what this game—and this program—is all about. The support our girls give to one another, the way they encourage each other, challenge each other, and continue to believe in each other every single day has been an absolute blessing to watch.

We are becoming more than a team. We are becoming a group of teammates who understand that our individual success means so much more when it contributes to something bigger than ourselves. We can't wait to get back to work, keep grinding, keep challenging one another, and keep growing together.

This is one of our quotes for the year:

"I can't believe that God put us on this earth to be ordinary."

We don't want to be ordinary.  We want to be great teammates. We want to be great competitors. And we want to see how far we can go together."

The Falcons will remain in Wichita and host the Friends Fall Invite on Sept. 14-15 at the Crestview Country Club.
