WICHITA, Kan. – It was a clean sweep today in the KCAC Golfer of the Week awards, as junior Victoria Hofmann is the KCAC Women's Golfer of the Week and freshman Laken Matthews is the top KCAC Men's Golfer, the conference office announced today (Mar. 30). All KCAC Player of the Week awards are sponsored by Athletic Solutions.
Hofmann shot a +19 and held off Kansas Wesleyan's Chaney Littell to win the individual title at the Friends Women's Spring Invite this week.
A native of Frankfurt, Germany, Hofmann shot a 78-83-161 across two rounds for the Falcons.
"We are very proud of our team and the way that we competed through some challenging weather last week," said Friends women's golf head coach Scott Moshier. I'm very proud of Victoria and how she just kept "grinding" out on the course during the tournament as she led the field from wire to wire!"
In a highly competitive field that featured 10 NAIA Top 25 teams and two more teams receiving votes, Matthews finished tied for 11th individually by shooting one under par in the third round to surge 10 spots on the leaderboard.
A Wichita native, Matthews finished with a score of 75-74-71-220 for the Falcons.
"Laken is very deserving of this recognition," said Friends men's golf head coach Dustin Galyon. "He played very well on a very tough course with little experience playing Desert golf."
Both Falcon golf programs will next compete at the Bethany College Classic on Apr. 6-7 in Lindsborg, Kan.
