WICHITA, Kan. – Just one day after being named the KCAC Softball Player of the Week and the NAIA SB Invite Player of the Tournament, Friends University sophomore first baseman Cambell Riordan has earned NAIA Softball Player of the Week honors, the national office announced today (Feb. 24).
Still in the first month of her Falcon career, Riordon had a truly historic week for the program. The Wichita native batted .571 with three home runs and 20 RBIs for the Falcons across nine games this past week.
Riordan's output was highlighted by a single-game modern-era record nine RBIs in the Falcons' 17-3 romp of Columbia College on Friday (Feb. 20) at the NAIA SB Invite in Shawnee, Okla. She also got on base at a .625 clip and slugged 1.250 during the nine outings.
In her first year at Friends, Riordan ranks first in the KCAC in RBIs (22), tied for first in home runs (three) and fourth in batting average (.525).
"Cambell has been a tremendous addition to our program this year!" said Friends softball head coach Suzanne Unruh. "She loves to hit and it shows. Cambell also has a lot of confidence at the plate even in pressure situations. She is definitely the spark plug in our lineup, and we look forward to seeing her shine this season."
Riordan and the Falcons will next be in action at the Top Gun Invite on Saturday (Feb. 28) with games against Doane University and William Woods University in Kansas City, Mo.
