Shawnee, Okla. — The (RV) Friends University Falcons fell 6-2 to the No. 11-ranked Midland University Warriors today (Feb. 22) to wrap up action at the NAIA SB Invite in Shawnee, Okla.
In the third inning, Midland took the lead when Alexis Shepherd scored on Isabelle Pagan's walk for the first run of the game.
Midland extended its lead in the fourth inning when Maddison Zach scored on a triple by Sophie De Rouin, who then scored on Shepherd's groundout to make it 3-0.
Friends responded in the fifth inning.
Sofia Sandoval scored on a walk by
Cadence Magana to cut the deficit to 3-1. However, Midland countered with a solo home run by Pagan, ending the fifth inning at 4-1.
Midland added to its lead in the sixth inning with RBI singles from Grace Behrns and Pagan to give the Warriors a commanding 6-1 lead.
In the seventh inning, Friends added a run when
Madison Nightingale scored on a single by Magana, but that's all the offense the Falcons could muster.
Magana had two RBIs and
Cambell Riordan added a double for the Falcons.
Jenna Ormiston pitched a complete game for the Falcons, going six innings while allowing six earned runs on eight hits along with six strikeouts and five walks.
Pagan had three hits and three RBIs for the Warriors and De Rouin also had a pair of hits.
Mackenzie Groninga pitched seven innings and allowed two runs while striking out 10 but also walking 11 batters.
The Falcons will next be in action at the Top Gun Invite on Saturday (Feb. 28) with games against Doane University and William Woods University in Kansas City, Mo.
