SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The No. 2-ranked Friends University Falcons were dominant once again in winning the Evangel Fall Invitational with a team score of -16, a full 32 strokes ahead of second-place Graceland University at the Bill & Payne Stewart GC in Springfield, Mo.
Laken Matthews paced the Falcons with a career-high tying -7 to finish second individually.
Dawson Branstetter competed as an individual and was right behind in third with a season-high -3 for the Falcons, followed by Bernhard Koster and Jenson Boyce (-2) in a tie for fourth. Cameron Wahl (+2) was tied for 10th and Jaydon Carruthers (+5) came in tied for 15th.
"We had another good week!" said Friends men's golf head coach Tom McCurdy. "I was very excited to see the guys come out of the gate and start round one with a bunch of birdies. Bernhard set the tone for the team in round one with a 63, which was fun to witness. He took advantage of opportunities and even made a couple of amazing par saves to keep it going. Laken, Jenson and Dawson all had solid stretches and finished well. Jaydon's final round was a great bounce back after not having his best day on Monday. I was really impressed with Cameron's composure and mentality in his first time in the line-up. "
The guys have great attitudes and are are happy with wins but we know our best is yet to come. We are really looking forward to the KCAC Match Play Championship next week!"
As McCurdy mentioned, the Falcons will compete at the KCAC Match Play Championship starting on Monday (Oct. 19) at the Mariah Hills Golf Course in Dodge City, Kan.
