WICHITA, Kan. – Friends University junior Silva Avakian has earned first-team All-KCAC Women's Tennis honors and freshman Aneth Diaz is a second-team selection, the conference office announced today (Apr. 22). For the Falcon Men, sophomore Cristobal Fuentes is also a second-team honoree.
Last season's KCAC Player of the Year, Avakian had another solid season this year for the Falcons. The Pasadena, Calif. native went 17-9 as the No. 1 singles player for Friends while posting a 12-8 mark in the top doubles position.
An instant impact freshman, Diaz won three of her last four singles matches of the year and went 12-5 overall as the Falcons' primary No. 2 singles player. A native of Ciudad Obregon, Mexico, Diaz also went 11-6 in doubles action.
Competing as the Men's Falcons' No. 1 singles player, Fuentes went 10-10 from the top spot, including catching fire and winning six of seven conference singles outings from Mar. 25-Apr. 12.
"Silva and Cristobal had to fight through some injuries this spring and Aneth coming in as a freshman did really well," said Friends tennis head coach Alex Lee. "I'm proud our athletes competed at such a high level. Looking forward to next year and making it a great year for our teams."
