WICHITA, Kan. - The Friends University Men's Tennis Falcons earned a 5–2 victory over Evangel University, while the Women's Falcons delivered a dominant 6–1 win yesterday (Apr. 1) at the Genesis Rock Tennis Courts in Wichita, Kan.

The Men's Falcons secured the doubles point with a sweep and rallied in singles, winning four of the final six matches to overcome an early deficit against Evangel University.

At No. 1 doubles, Gabriel Gomes and Cristobal Fuentes secured a 6-4 victory over Gabriele Renella and Angel Gomez. The No. 2 doubles court saw Trey Lacy and Rodrigo Torres triumph in a tight 7-6(3) set against Alberto Moya and Emiliano Arjona. Yves Ikuno and Jacob Bush completed the sweep at No. 3 doubles with a decisive 6-1 win over Nathan Wilking and Landon Whitfield.

In singles, the Valor initially took the lead with victories at the top two singles positions. Angel Gomez defeated Fuentes, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 1 singles, followed by Renella's comeback win over Gomes, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 2 singles. Friends responded strongly, starting with Torres at No. 3 singles, who defeated Moya 6-4, 6-1. Lacy then added another point for Friends at No. 4 singles with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 win over Arjona, making the dual score 3-2 in favor of Friends.

Ikuno clinched the match for the Falcons at No. 5 singles with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Wilking, securing the fourth point. Bush added to the final margin with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Chase Buckholz at No. 6 singles, concluding the match with a 5-2 victory for Friends.

The Women's Falcons secured the doubles point and carried the momentum into singles, winning five of six matches to take control early and finish strong against Evangel University.

Aneth Diaz and Silva Avakian delivered a 6-4 win against Maria Morgado and Rachel Chaney at No. 1 doubles. This was followed by Carlotta Klee and Emma Sargeant's 6-2 victory over McKylie Cox and Lauren Hendrickson at No. 2 doubles. Evangel managed a win at No. 3 doubles, where Lidia Bjelica and Erecka Penner overcame Cha'Lyse Andrews and Tammy-Ann Lombarth, 6-4.

In singles play, Friends extended its lead, beginning with Avakian's straight-sets victory over Chaney, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1 singles. Diaz followed with a hard-fought win at No. 2 singles, defeating Morgado, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. Klee clinched the match for the Falcons at No. 3 singles, overcoming Bjelica, 6-1, 7-5. The score moved to 4-0, ensuring the dual win for Friends.

Post-clincher, Sargeant added to the tally with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Hendrickson at No. 4 singles. Lombarth then triumphed at No. 5 singles, rallying to defeat Cox in a three-set match, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(4). Evangel claimed its sole singles point at No. 6 singles, where Olivia Glissen edged out Alana Ewert, 7-6, 7-6. Friends concluded the match with a commanding 6-1 final dual score.

The Falcon tennis squads will return to action on Monday (Apr. 6), hosting McPherson College at the Riverside Tennis Center at 3:00 p.m. The matchup will also serve as Senior Day.
