No. 9 Men’s Golf Falcons claim KCAC Match Play championship

Dodge City, Kan. – The No. 9-ranked Friends University Falcons ended the fall campaign on the highest of notes with a victory in the KCAC Match Play event at the Mariah Hills Golf Course in Dodge City, Kan.

The Falcons started with a 3-2 win over Kansas Wesleyan University behind wins from Gabriele Romani, Jenson Boyce and Trinton Nobles.

In the title match, the Falcons bested Sterling College as Laken Matthews, Nobles and Boyce all secured wins and Bernhard Koster came away with a tie in his match.

"This was another step for our entire team," said Friends men's golf head coach Dustin Galyon. "Anything can happen in Matchplay and that was on full display this week. We faced brutal conditions on the first day and had some major growth after the first round of competition. It was fun to see our guys battle back after a poor first round of decision making, coaching on my part and lack of mental toughness as a team.

Fast forward to day two and the last round, I felt like we had flipped the switch mentally to play well. Coach Hamman was the difference maker for our coaching staff and I credit him greatly for navigating the tournament. This was an exciting way to wrap up our fall season with another win as a team. Our guys played For Each Other and that was awesome to see!!"

The Falcons will now begin to prepare for the spring season as they seek their fourth straight KCAC championship.
