WICHITA, Kan. – Heading into its second season as a newly created program, Taylor Staley has been announced as the new Friends University Competitive Dance team head coach.
Staley brings well-rounded experience to the Falcons, having been involved in dance since she was four years old while currently teaching at the Newton Performing Arts Center where she also choreographs for the dance team.
"I am so excited to join the Friends family and be a part of such a close knit community," said Staley. "I am so thankful for the opportunity to coach this dance team and I can't wait to see how they progress over the year!"
A Newton, Kan. native, Staley has taught dance for the past 11 years and has performed nationally, highlighted by a tour of Mexico with the Wichita Contemporary Dance Theatre and Alithea Mime Theatre.
Staley received her bachelor's degree in dance performance from Wichita State University and also serves as an adjunct professor in dance at Butler Community College.
"I'm extremely excited to be working hand in hand with Taylor," said Friends Competitive Cheer Head Coach Joshua Johnson, who has guided the Falcons to the past two KCAC competitive cheer regular season championships.
"Her knowledge and experience in the dance world is incredibly strong and that's what we need in a dance coach. I could tell by our first interaction that she was fully invested in Friends and committed to building something special. I have no doubt that Taylor will do great things and bring a lot of energy to Friends University."
