WICHITA, Kan. – Friends University VP of Athletics & Strategic Expansion Dr. Rob Ramseyer has announced that Tim Prescott has been named the new women's wrestling head coach and will also serve a temporary role as the men's wrestling interim head coach.
"We are excited for Tim to lead the women's program," said Ramseyer. "He has a strong background with experience in numerous high-level programs and will lead the program with a high level of integrity with a focus on our mission."
Since becoming an assistant coach two years ago in the wrestling program's debut season on campus, Prescott's imprint has been clear and impactful.
Everything culminated this season with a pair of Falcons (Bailee Nelson, Gianna Moreno) becoming the program's first-ever national qualifiers at the NAIA Women's Wrestling National Championship.
As a team, the Falcons placed 26th nationally, tops among all KCAC schools.
"I am beyond honored and humbled to be named Head Women's Wrestling Coach for Friends University," said Prescott. "Women's Wrestling is by far the fastest growing sport in the United States and has made massive waves internationally. I am truly blessed to share a small part in these trailblazers' lives and continue to express my love of the sport in new engaging ways to create opportunities for women's wrestling in times to come. Kansas has been a historic ground for women's wrestling in the past, and that has helped additional states get the ball rolling to fully sanction girls wrestling in their respected areas."
Prior to arriving at Friends, Prescott was the head coach for one season at Central Christian College following a one-year stint as an assistant coach at Cornell College and a two-year appointment as a graduate assistant coach at Northern State University.
Prescott was also a standout collegiate wrestler, capturing the 2015 NCAA Division II national championship at St. Cloud State University in the 125-pound division while being named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Wrestler of the Year. Overall, Prescott contributed to a pair of NCAA D-II team national championships for SCSU.
He earned his Masters of Sport Performance from Northern State in 2019 and his Bachelor of Liberal Studies degree from St. Cloud State in 2017.
"Through the support of Friends University, the city of Wichita, and with the NAIA still leading the charge as the first, and currently, the only fully sanctioned collegiate women's wrestling division; I am more than confident we can truly build something truly special, here, in the heart of Kansas," added Prescott.
