Women's Wrestling Competes in Jimmy May Open; Last Competition Before Postseason

Baldwin City, Kan. - Women's wrestling completed their regular season at the Jimmy May Open on Saturday (Feb. 14). The last chance to get good competition before the KCAC/ SAC conference tournament which will be hosted here at the Garvey Center.

The Falcons had two placers in the open over the weekend. Gianna Redcorn and Alexis Means represented the Falcons well placing 5th and 6th place in their weight classes.

In the 207 lb weight class Redcorn went 3-2 in her bracket. All 3 of her wins came from a fall, including her 5th place match in which she earned a win in 1:08. Redcorn goes into the postseason on a high note.

Alexis Means wrestled at the 145 lb class and wrestled 8 total matches. After losing in her quarterfinals bout, Means fought back all the way to find a 5th place match. Means went 5-3 on Saturday and grabbed 4 tech falls in those wins. Means dropped her 5th place match, but showed tons of heart fighting back in the blood rounds.

Next up for the women's wrestling program is the postseason and tickets to be punched to nationals. The KCAC/SAC Conference tournament will be held here in Wichita in two weeks on Friday (Feb. 27). Wrestling will be at the Garvey Center bright and early at 9:00 AM.
