WICHITA, Kan. – Friends University sophomore Fien Molenberg has been voted as the KCAC Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced today (Apr. 27). All KCAC Player of the Week awards are sponsored by Athletic Solutions.
Molenberg finished sixth and bested multiple NCAA D-I and D-II runners with a PR and NAIA Standard time of 2:10:64 at the John McDonnell Invite at the University of Arkansas.
A native of Harderwijk, Netherlands, Molenberg's time is tops in the KCAC and eighth in the NAIA this season.
Molenberg has carried over her success from the indoor season, where she won the KCAC championship in both the 600 and 800 meter events.
"Fien has been working really hard this spring and we have continued to see her times in both the 400m and 800m drop as she builds confidence in racing," said Friends track & field head coach Henry Brun. "The 2:10 mark was big for her because it puts her in the conversation of making a national final - our ultimate goal! We will continue to fine tune some things in these final weeks through KCACs and go into the NAIA meet with all the tools to fight for her first All-American status!"
Molenberg and the Falcons are getting set to host the KCAC championships on campus at Adair-Austin Stadium starting this Thursday (Apr. 30).
