Tennis Falcons take two over Sterling

Box Score WICHITA, Kan. -- The Friends University Tennis Falcons won both matches over the Sterling College Warriors yesterday, with the Falcon Women shutting out Sterling 7-0 and the Falcon Men pulling out a 5-2 victory at the Riverside Tennis Center in Wichita. 

The Women's Falcons dominated the doubles matches to secure the doubles point against the Lady Warriors. Wins on courts one and two solidified the point, with Carlotta Klee and Silva Avakian taking a 6-4 victory over Danna Arroyo and Greta Fankhauser at No. 1 doubles, followed by Aneth Diaz and Emma Sargeant's 6-0 win against Elysa Aspen and Hannah Giordanelli at No. 2 doubles. 

In singles play, the Falcons also completed a clean sweep. Avakian opened with a straight-sets win over Arroyo, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 1 singles. Diaz extended the lead at No. 2 singles, defeating Giordanelli 6-0, 6-0. Klee continued the momentum at No. 3 singles, prevailing over Fankhauser 6-1, 6-1.

Sargeant added another point for Friends with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Aspen at No. 4 singles. 

The Men's Falcons also secured the doubles point with victories on courts one and three. Gabriel Gomes and Cristobal Fuentes delivered a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles over Kazuki Fukushima and Fernando Vargas Sanchez. Trey Lacy and Gage Marsh followed with a decisive 6-0 result at No. 3 doubles against Cassidy Kelly and Ibrahim Curtis-Kaduma. The Warriors claimed No. 2 doubles after Pedro Felipoff and Rubem Bogomoltz edged Yves Ikuno and Rodrigo Torres, 7-6(4).

In singles play, Friends extended its lead with a swift win at No. 1 singles, as Fuentes defeated Felipoff, 6-1, 6-1. Sterling responded at No. 2 singles where Vargas Sanchez overcame Gomes, 6-2, 6-1. The Falcons regained momentum with a victory at No. 3 singles, as Torres bested Bogomoltz, 6-0, 7-5.

Sterling added another point at No. 4 singles when Fukushima took down Lacy, 6-1, 6-3. However, Friends clinched the match with Jacob Bush's 6-0, 6-0 win over Kelly at No. 5 singles. Ikuno completed the singles lineup with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 victory over Curtis-Kaduma at No. 6 singles, securing a 5-2 overall result for Friends.

The Falcon tennis squads are in action again today at home vs. Southwestern College, this time at McAdams Park Tennis Courts in Wichita.
