Box Score Leavenworth, Kan. -- The Friends University Tennis Falcons lost both matches at the University of Saint Mary Spires yesterday (Mar. 14) by identical scores of 5-2 in Leavenworth, Kan 

The Women's Falcons started strong by taking the first match at No. 1 doubles, with Carlotta Klee and Silva Avakian defeating Mia Rojas and Shannon Finn, 6-2. However, Saint Mary claimed the doubles point by winning the subsequent matches. Rowen Weimers and Monserrat Guerrero secured a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles against Tammy-Ann Lombarth and Aneth Diaz, followed by Courtney Standley and Arsys Rojas who overcame Cha'Lyse Andrews and Alana Ewert, 6-3, on court three.

In singles play, Avakian gave Friends an early boost with a commanding 6-2, 6-0 win over Rojas at No. 1 singles. Diaz extended the lead for Friends by defeating Finn, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 2 singles. However, Saint Mary responded with Guerrero's comeback victory at No. 3 singles, edging out Klee in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Saint Mary continued their momentum as Weimers defeated Lombarth with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles. Rojas added another point for Saint Mary by overcoming Andrews in a three-set battle, 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, at No. 5 singles. The competition concluded with Standley's victory over Sydney Rodriguez, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 6 singles, giving the Spires the 5-2 win. 

For the Falcon Men, Saint Mary secured the doubles point with a clean sweep in all three matches. The No. 1 doubles team of Nils Dueppe and Nudem Koyuncu defeated Gabriel Gomes and Cristobal Fuentes from the Falcons 7-5. Korbin Priestley and Evan Maritz followed with a 6-2 win over Yves Ikuno and Rodrigo Torres at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, Mateo Dargel Argote and Carlos Grimaldi clinched the sweep with a 6-2 victory against Trey Lacy and Jacob Bush.

In singles play, Fuentes put the Falcons on the board with a win at No. 1 singles, taking a three-set match 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 over Grimaldi. However, Maritz from Saint Mary quickly responded, claiming a victory at No. 2 singles by defeating Gomes 7-6(4), 6-4. Torres added another point for Friends with a 7-6(7), 6-1 win over Koyuncu in the No. 3 singles match.

Saint Mary secured the overall victory with wins in the remaining singles matches. Priestley defeated Lacy 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 singles. Dargel Argote continued the momentum for Saint Mary, winning 6-1, 6-0 against Ikuno at No. 5 singles. Finally, Santiago Garcia closed the match with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Bush at No. 6 singles for Saint Mary.

Both Falcon tennis teams will be in action again tomorrow (Mar. 16) at Avila University in Kansas City, Mo.
