Park City, Kan. – Senior Braden Morgan etched his name forever in the Friends University Men's Wrestling record book by clinching the program's first NAIA All-America honor in school history on the second day of the NAIA Men's Wrestling National Championship today (Mar. 7 at Park City Arena in Park City, Kan.
After winning both matches yesterday to advance to today's quarterfinal round, Morgan was nipped in a 4-3 decision to No. 2 seed Earnest Johnson (Life).
But Morgan rebounded in a big way from that point, winning a convincing 11-3 majority decision over sixth-seeded Johnny Cruz (Indiana Tech) in his first consolation match and then knocking off third-seeded Antonio Garcia (Corban) in a hard-fought 4-3 decision.
Tomorrow morning (Mar. 8), Morgan, the seventh seed in the 285-pound division, will face fourth-seeded Nico Rodriguez (Eastern Oregon) with a berth in the national third-place match on the line.
