Falcons Men’s Wrestling Places 3rd at the “Battle in the Bluegrass”, Crowning One Champion and Several Placers

Corbin, Ky. - Friends University wrapped up 2025 traveling to Kentucky for the "Battle in the Bluegrass". The Falcons had an amazing tournament scoring 147.5 team points, earning them a 3rd place finish. Contributing to those points were two finalists, Cayleb Atkins (1st) and Jason Bowers (2nd). Friends also had many more placers, an all around great team effort before the break.

Here are the Falcons Top Performers:

  • 157 lbs - Cayleb Atkins | Atkins took 1st place cruising to the semi-finals with three falls. In his semi-finals match he kept his foot on the gas with a 10-1 major victory over Brice Coleman of Cumberlands. Atkins won his finals match due to a medical forfeit. Finishing off a dominant day for Atkins and becoming the only Falcon to place 1st.

  • 184 lbs - Jason Bowers | Bowers also made the championship match representing the Falcons. Bowers won his quarterfinals match 8-2 over Defiance College's Samuel Moore. In Bowers' semi-finals match up he pushed the pace in the 3rd period scoring 13 points in his 16-5 win onto the finals. Bowers finished the tournament with a 2nd place finish, capping off a great finish to 2025.

  • 141 lbs - Wyatt Gardner | Gardner won the consolation side of the bracket with a 3rd place finish. Gardner's first match was a 19-3 tech fall win, he grabbed another sound win with a 10-1 major victory in the quarterfinals. Gardner showed resilience and shut out his opponent in his 3rd place match 5-0.

Focusing on getting better each week and it's showing well! The guys are pushing each other as a whole! We are looking to develop over the next two months and see where we end up. We are all grateful to have the opportunity to get better each day!"
