Alva, Okla. – The Friends University Falcons traveled to Alva, Okla. and came away with a convincing 92-71 victory over the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Rangers in an exhibition tonight (Nov. 26).
Following a three-point play by Max Alexander that put the Rangers in front 23-22, a three-pointer by Randy Woolf, Jr. put the Falcons right back in front.
After another layup by Alexander tied the score, two free throws by Dannon Lundy and a three by Owen Evans gave the Falcons a lead they wouldn't relinquish the rest of the night.
Leading 34-32 late in the first half, two threes by Cahlese Lee helped the Falcons gain separation and lead 42-34 at the break.
Consecutive layups by Lundy then helped the Falcons score seven straight in the early part of the second half to double a seven-point lead up to 55-41.
Another trey by Woolf, Jr. and score from Lundy pushed the lead to 79-58 at the 7:47 mark and the Falcons had it on cruise control from that point.
That 21-point lead equaled the final margin of victory as the Falcons' biggest lead of the night.
Lee scored 19 points to lead a balanced scoring attack for the Falcons (5-2, 2-1 KCAC) that featured six players in double-figures. Woolf, Jr. scored 16 and hit 4-of-5 from beyond the arc along with a game-high nine assists. Ring Deng scored 12, while Kee'on Hutton and Al Emerllahu each added 11 points.
Alexander led all scorers with 38 points for NWOSU and DaRaun Clark scored 14. Kabeya Tshibangu pulled down a game-high nine boards for the Rangers, an NCAA D-II school out of the Great American Conference.
Friends outrebounded NWOSU 33-27, including an 11-6 edge on the offensive glass that resulted in an 14-0 edge in second chance points.
The Falcons were outshot 50 % to 49.2 % overall from the field but doubled up the Rangers in three-point makes (18-9) while hitting 10 more free throws (16-6).
Following the Thanksgiving Break, the Falcons will resume KCAC action at Bethel College on Dec. 4 in North Newton, Kan.
