WICHITA, Kan. – First-year men's wrestling head coach Tyler Mies picked up his first career win in the Friends University Falcons' 39-18 dual victory over the Bethany College Swedes tonight (Dec. 6) inside the Garvey Center.
With the dual even at 6-6, Gunnar Henderson won by fall and then Austin Zaring recorded a dominating technical fall victory (16-1) to give the Falcons control that they wouldn't relinquish.
Thomas Vasquez then had an open win and Jaime Mitchell followed that with a pin that allowed the Falcons to continue to pull away.
A short time later, Jason Bowers won a convincing 13-1 decision before another win by fall, this time by Gustavo Renteria, finished off the Swedes.
Roberto Camacho had started the night off with an open win for Friends.
"Feels good to get our first dual win of the season," said Mies. "We look forward to building off of this win and continuing to build the team culture throughout the year. Should be a fun season!"
The Falcons will next compete in the Eagle Duals in Kansas City, Mo. on Dec. 16 before taking time off for the Christmas holiday.
Full results of tonight's dual vs. Bethany will be available on www.trackwrestling.com soon.
