SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The No. 14-ranked Evangel University Valor stayed unbeaten in the KCAC with wins of 7-3 and 6-0 over the Friends University Falcons today (Mar. 30) in Springfield, Mo.
The Falcons jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening game behind an RBI single from Ezra Arredondo in the third and then a two-run homer by Keara Cunningham in the fourth.
Evangel responded and got a two-run double from Chloe Krans that began a four-run bottom of the fourth to take the lead.
Naomi Perkins capped the fourth with a go-ahead single and then singled home another run in the sixth before Camryn Casey doubled in another run for the four-run margin for Evangel.
Madi Bentley, who struck out eight and walked seven, held off the Falcons from there to close out the first game win.
Jenna Ormiston started for the Falcons and was charged with just one earned run out of seven allowed thanks to four errors. She struck out five and walked three across 5.2 innings.
Perkins had three hits to fuel the Valor hitting attack in the opener.
The Falcons (15-16, 5-7 KCAC) were then held to one hit by Maddy Meierer in the second game, who struck out nine and walked just one in seven innings.
Evangel took control early with two runs in the first and then got three more in the fourth and another in the sixth to put it away.
Cadence Magana had the only hit for the Falcons in the nightcap, while Lauren Dill went 2-of-3 with a pair of RBIs to lead the Valor (30-4 12-0 KCAC).
The Falcons will next host Sterling College for two games Wednesday afternoon (Apr. 1) starting at 3 pm at Two Rivers Youth Complex.
