Wichita, Kan. - Friends University baseball had another doubleheader scheduled against Graceland to wrap up a four game series against the Yellowjackets. With getting outscored 29-10 Friday afternoon, the Falcons were looking for anything to try and jolt them back into the win column.

Game 1

The first game of the doubleheader would be a nine-inning affair, with Max Van Dam starting for the Falcons. The score would be knotted at ones before going into the 5th inning. The Yellowjackets strung together a couple of singles and sacrifices that put them up 5-1 before Friends' big 6th inning.

Batting in the 9 hole this game, Davis Chakos came up with a huge 2 RBI single to get a rally started. A few batters later the bases were loaded and Graceland walked Bernie Socarras to tie the game 5-5. Next batter, Elijah Morales was due for a big hit and he delivered. Morales lined an RBI single to left field and gave Friends a 6-5 lead with a massive rally.Â

The Falcons would keep their bats hot in the 7th as they would score 4 more runs due to a Miles Hartman RBI single and a Lyonel Barthelemy 2 RBI double. The late inning hitting from Friends would surge them to a lead of 10-5.

Cameron Chase and Preston Lewis would pitch the last three innings for the Falcons and give up no earned runs. Closing out the game winning the first game of the doubleheader 10-5. The Falcons turned a corner compared to their performance yesterday, showing resilience in the batters box. Friends scored 9 unanswered runs after Graceland grabbed a 5-1 early lead.Â
Game 2

For this seven-inning game the Falcons would throw junior Brett Black on the bump. Black would attempt to match his start against OCU just two weeks ago. The Wichita native threw 5 innings and allowed just 3 runs in his outing.Â

Friends would have to show that they can handle adversity once again being down 3-1 in the early innings. Elijah Joseph would get an RBI single to score the Falcons first run of this game. Both ball clubs tried to implement small balls especially in this seven-inning game. Base running, bunts, and situational baseball was being shown.

Not until the 5th inning came about, Friends was down just 3-2 to Graceland until the Falcons had one of the most impressive innings in their history. Bernie Socarras would add onto his big day with an RBI double to tie the game at 3 a piece. Elijah Morales would get a 2 RBI single just after, solidifying themselves in this order.Â

Friends would send 12 straight Falcons to get on base in this inning. The Falcons would not be stopped in the massive 5th inning. There were bloop singles, doubles down the line, stolen bases, great at bats to earn walks. All of this earned the Falcons a 12 spot in the bottom of the 5th inning, giving them a 14-3 lead.Â

This sparked yet another comeback victory for the Falcons, going 13 unanswered this time against Graceland in game two. The Falcons sweeping the doubleheader today split the 4 game series against Graceland. Outsourcing the Yellowjackets today 24-8, the Falcons bring their record back over .500 (4-2).Â

Friends baseball will stay in Wichita next time they play. USAO will be coming to Westside Athletic Field for a nine-inning game on Tuesday (Feb. 10) at 2:00 PM.
