Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball sweeps doubleheader with York

Wichita, Kan. - Due to cold weather in York, a schedule change was made for Friends to host a weekend series in Wichita. Friends would look to get their first conference win of the season against York. In this series Friends would be considered the away team due to the schedule change. Saturday (Feb. 21) was a doubleheader as the Falcons would pitch a shutout in game one winning 7-0. In game two Friends would have some clutch small ball in the 7th to complete the doubleheader sweep.

Game 1

The Falcons delivered a performance that was dominant in all phases in this game. Raleigh Clark was the starter for the Falcons and had the best performance from a Falcons pitcher this year.

Clark went 7 innings for the Falcons only giving up 3 hits and struck out a season-high 12 batters. Clark's efficient pitching in the zone and getting ahead of batters led him to his longest outing of the season. Colby Turner and Jackson Walls were also a part of the shutout, each pitching 1 inning.

The Falcons offense got started quickly with an RBI triple from Hudson Sharp to put the Falcons up 1-0. Shortly after Sharp would score from an Elijah Morales single to put the Falcons up 2.

Friends would put 3 more runs on the board due to the untimely Panther pitching. The Falcons would score on two walks and a fielder's choice in the 4th inning, putting them up 6-0.

The story of the game was the brilliant pitching of the Falcons, a much needed performance from the staff to grab their first conference win of the season. Friends would end up winning the first game 7-0.

Game 2

York would try to have an answer for the Falcons pitching to avoid the doubleheader sweep. The Panthers grabbed a solo home run in the 2nd to grab an early lead.

Bernie Socarras would answer back in the 4th inning with an RBI double to score Camden Miller. Elijah Morales would give the Falcons the lead with a solo home run giving the Falcons a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom half York would tie it with another solo shot of their own. Both pitching staffs would blank each other in the 5th and 6th inning.

With the small ball identity the Falcons have instilled this season, Elijah Joseph would bunt a single and the Falcons would score 2 runs off of an error by the York pitcher. The Falcons would go into the final frame up 4-2.

Preston Lewis would come in for the save for Friends. After a leadoff walk Lewis would then mow down the next three York batters to complete the doubleheader sweep, winning 4-2.

Friends looks to sweep the series on Sunday (Feb. 22) at Westside Athletic Field in Wichita.
