Olathe, Kan. — The (RV) Friends University Falcons were swept by the MidAmerica Nazarene University Pioneers by scores of 5-2 in the first game and then 10-5 in the second tilt.
A two-run single by Tuscani Ritter and an RBI single by Lailah Simmons fueled a five-run second inning for the Pioneers in the first game and made it 5-0.
In the fourth inning, Friends responded.
Cambell Riordan singled and later scored on an error alongside
Cadence Magana to cut the deficit to 5-2 after the fourth inning.
But that would be all for the Falcons as Mandy Brown didn't allow a run over the final three innings.
Jenna Ormiston pitched a complete game, covering six innings while recording two strikeouts. Magana drew three walks and scored one run, contributing to the offensive efforts of Friends.
Ormiston faced 29 batters, striking out two and walking two , while being charged with four earned runs but allowing no runs from the third inning onward.
Ritter drove in two runs and Aariana Paprocki produced two hits in three at-bats with a run scored for the Pioneers. Brown pitched a complete game of seven innings, striking out 10 batters, and allowing just two hits without giving up an earned run.
The Falcons initially took the lead in the nightcap with two runs in the first inning when
Chloe Enslinger hit a single to drive in
Tamara Lozoya and Magana for two runs.
The Pioneers got on the board with a run in the third before exploding for eight runs in the fourth behind a two-run double by Dakoda Hobbs and a two-run single from Paprocki for a commanding 9-2 lead.
In the fifth inning,
Izzy Jones singled and then scored on a double by Lozoya before Magana followed with another double to bring Lozoya home.
MidAmerica Nazarene added a run in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Dak Hobbs to extend its lead to 10-4.
Friends added one more run in the seventh inning as Nightingale singled and later scored on a groundout by Magana.
Lozoya recorded two runs and drove in one with a double. Magana added two hits and two RBIs, including a double. Enslinger contributed two RBIs with a hit in two at-bats. Jones finished with two hits and scored one run.
Ezra Arredondo started and pitched three innings for the Falcons, allowing 9 hits and 4 earned runs.
Brie Manwarren pitched five innings for MNU, allowing four earned runs on seven hits and striking out five, while also contributing offensively with a hit, a run scored and a walk. Simmons led the team with two RBIs, collecting two hits in three at-bats. Paprocki went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Hobbs drove in three runs for the Pioneers.
The Falcons will next be in action this weekend at the NAIA SB Invite in Shawnee, Okla. Friends will open against Columbia College on Friday (Feb. 20) at noon before squaring off with No. 2-ranked Oklahoma City University later that day at 4 pm.
