Box Score 2 Ottawa, Kan. - Friends University Baseball (4-5) opened up their conference play this year against the Ottawa Braves. This would also be the Falcons first games on the road this season. In both games the Falcons were only able to bring 1 run from their offense.
Game 1
The Falcons would get off to a lead in the 2nd inning without recording a hit. A couple of throwing errors from the Braves defense allowed Holden Sabor to score a run putting the Falcons up 1-0 at the end of the 2nd.
Friends had a great outing from their pitching today, something that has been holding them back to start the year. Junior Raleigh Clark was brilliant today as he tossed 6.2 innings, allowing just 3 hits and earning 4 strikeouts.
The Braves offense broke through in the 7th and 8th inning. Tying the game with a sacrifice fly in the 7th and later taking the lead in the 8th inning with a 3 run bottom half. Ottawa would take the first game of the doubleheader, winning 4-1. The Braves pitching just allowed 1 hit in 9 innings to the Falcons' shortstop, Miles Hartman.
Game 2
Friends was looking to bounce back after a rough offensive performance in game one. In this game Ottawa jumped out in front early with a SAC bunt in the 1st inning. In the 2nd inning the Braves would score on another sacrifice from a flyout putting Ottawa up 2-0.
Brett Black would be on the bump for the Falcons this game and he would go 2.2 innings and only give up 1 earned run on 4 hits. Seve Sissac would go against 4 batters and put them all away in order.
The Falcons only run of this game came from a throwing error from the Braves defense. Hudson Sharp would score the Falcons only run of the game. Ottawa took control with their pitching once again, making timely defensive plays to stop rallies late. Friends would ultimately lose 3-1 in this one.
Despite the results on the scoreboard, the Falcons pitching staff was composed and put on a performance that can bring them more confidence down the road. The Falcons have a chance to take the last game of the series on Sunday (Feb. 15) at 1:00 PM in Ottawa.
