WICHITA, Kan. – Friends University freshman Joaquin Miranda has been named the KCAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the first time in his career, the conference office announced today (Oct. 12). All KCAC Player of the Week awards are sponsored by Athletic Solutions.
Miranda ran a PR of 25:26.1 in his third career race at the JBU Invitational last Saturday (Oct. 10) to finish a solid fourth place in an event that also featured multiple NCAA D-II teams.
A Houston, Texas native, Miranda's season best race led the Falcons to a sixth-place team finish.
With the level Miranda is already running at, there's likely many more awards and recognition to come in his future at Friends.
"Joaquin is a great addition to our program," said Friends cross country head coach Tracy Jex. "He is a very talented athlete, and he gave a great effort and always brings a great attitude to our practices and meets. This is a really special honor for him to receive as a freshman."
Miranda and the Falcons will next compete at the Blazing Tiger Invite in Ashland, Neb. on Oct. 24.
