WICHITA, Kan. – Friends University senior forward Ringo Deng has been voted as the KCAC Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week, announced today (Jan. 27) by the conference office. All KCAC Player of the Week awards are sponsored by Athletic Solutions.
Deng recorded five steals, six defensive rebounds and one block to fuel the No. 14-ranked Falcons on the defensive end of a crucial 91-85 overtime victory at No. 25-ranked Bethel College and snap the Threshers' eight game winning streak last Wednesday night (Jan. 21) in North Newton, Kan.
A native of Grand Prairie, Texas, Deng is averaging a team-high 4.2 defensive rebounds this season along with 1.6 steals.
"Ring has been great on both ends of the court for us this year," said Friends men's basketball head coach Phil McClintock. "We have asked a lot from him playing big minutes, but he has responded again and again. We are lucky to have Ring in our program."
Deng and the Falcons are now 11–3 in KCAC play and 16–4 overall. Friends will next hit the road Wednesday (Jan. 28) for a matchup with the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kansas. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
