Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer grabs their first win of the year convincingly over Bethany.

Wichita, Kan. - The Falcons Men's Soccer team went against conference opponent Bethany to grab their first victory of the season 7-0. The Falcons started their scoring fast in just the 2nd minute. Felipe Calderaro gave an assist to Juan Diego Alfaro to put the Falcons up 1-0 early. The Falcons gained their first lead of the season off of this goal. The attack was very aggressive throughout the whole game for the Falcons, something we have not seen yet this year.

The Falcons attempted 19 shots in the first half and logged 8 of those on goal. Felipe Calderaro fed another assist to Sora Shibata giving Friends the lead 2-0 in the 13th minute. Jose Quiel scored his first goal back after some stagnant play from the Swedes and the Falcons. This gave the Falcons a 3-0 lead going into halftime.

In the second half Friends was even more aggressive with their attack, having 23 shot attempts and 11 of those being on net. Juan Diego Alfaro and Sora Shibata both scored their 2nd goals back to back, growing the lead to five for the Falcons. At the 70th minute Jose Quiel scored his 2nd goal as well assisted by Ben Scognamillo

Nearing the end of the game in the last minute, Gabriel Cardoza put in his first goal of the year to end the scoring for the Falcons. The limited turnovers and mistakes for the Falcons was ultimately what gave them this outstanding performance. Goalies Arturo Pombo-Palomero and Juan Jose Echeverry combined for a shutout for the Falcons making three total saves.

The Falcons (1-6-1) KCAC (1-1-1) take on University of St. Mary next game in Leavenworth, Kan. on October 1st @ 7:30 PM.
