Wichita, Kan. - Falcons Men's Soccer faced off against big rival Kansas Wesleyan University for a KCAC conference match up. The first half of this game did not start off as intense, only having 6 total shots between the Falcons and the Coyotes. Lots of back and forth defensive play in the midfield in this half, resulting in tons of tacky fouls towards both sides. The first half would end up being 0-0.
Early in this half goalie Arturo Pombo-Palomero faced a flurry of shots, not allowing any in after a couple of corner kicks that were awarded to the Coyotes. The Falcons defense held their ground against an aggressive attack from the Coyotes. However, in the 77th minute Noel Zimbeva, of Kansas Wesleyan, lobbed a shot over the goaltender who lost his footing and scored the first goal of the contest. This gave the Coyotes a 1-0 lead with 13 minutes to go.
The Falcons would respond just four minutes later, Eddy Rachedi scored on a rebound shot that was originally shot by Sora Shibata. This tied the game up 1-1 with just ten minutes to go. There were a total of 20 shots attempted in the second half of this game. No team could come up with the equalizer in this match up. With the final score in the match being 1-1.
The Falcons showed a lot of fight while going through some adversity early in this season. Leading goalscorer last year, Jose Quiel returned tonight giving the Falcons more of a spark. The next Falcons game will be home at Adair-Austin Stadium against Bethany. It will be on Saturday Sept. 27 at 1:30 PM.
