Leavenworth, Kan. – The Friends University Men's Cross Country Falcons posted a fourth-place finish at the season-opening Spire Sunset Showdown in head coach Tracy Jex's first race as head coach tonight (Aug. 29) in Leavenworth, Kan. The Falcon Women also began the season tonight and finished fifth.
Jace Douglas (27:46.6) was 37th and Sam Wright (27:49.4) was right behind in 38th to lead the Falcon Men's efforts. Xavi Rafart (28:19.5) finished 50th and Briac Ybanez (29:01.8) recorded a 58th place finish. Alex Zortman (29:12.1) was 62nd to cap the Falcons' top five finishers.
Lexi Patterson (20:53.2) was the Women's Falcons' top runner in 19th place and Hannah Cribley (22:05.3) was next in 30th place. Rebekah Choriego (23:38.3) came in 50th, while Grace Lee (23:49.8) and Gwendolyn Copeland (23:51.0) came in 52nd and 53rd to round out the Falcon Women's top five runners.
Both Falcon cross country teams will be in town next Saturday (Sept. 6) for the JK Gold Classic in Wichita. The men's race will start at 8 am, followed by the women's event at 8:30 am.
