Hillsboro, Kan. – In a makeup of a postponed game from late February, the Tabor College Bluejays nipped the Friends University Falcons 3-2 in the regular season finale for the Falcons today (Apr. 23) in Hillsboro, Kan.
Down 2-0 following a two-run homer by Marcelo Aguirre in the third, the Falcons got on the board when Zeke Henson doubled in Bernie Socarras in the top of the fourth.
After an RBI double by Isaiah Cohens in the sixth put the Bluejays up by two runs again, Carlos Rodriguez reached on an infield single to plate Niquan Benjamin to make it a one-run game in the eighth.
But Evan Williams got a groundout to leave the tying run in scoring position and then stranded another runner in the ninth to close out the win and earn the save for Tabor.
Socarras had two hits for the Falcons and Cody Moore went 3-of-4 for the Bluejays (26-19, 18-15 KCAC).
Cameron Chase was the Falcons' starting pitcher and went four innings with three runs allowed and five strikeouts. Matthew Benton then pitched two scoreless innings, with Chance Baker and Vincent Vigil following with a scoreless frame apiece.
The Falcons will now begin full preparations for the upcoming KCAC Baseball Tournament, set for Apr. 30-May 3 at Joe Becker Stadium in Joplin, Mo. Friends is currently the fourth seed in the conference at 20-16 in the league along with a 27-21 overall record.
