Two big swings propel Coyotes past Baseball Falcons in opening game of KCAC Tournament

Seneca, Mo. – A pair of three-run homers proved to be the difference in a 7-3 win for the second-seeded Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes over the seventh-seeded Friends University Falcons on the first day of the 2025 KCAC Baseball Tournament today (May 1) at the Seneca High School Baseball Field in Seneca, Mo.

The Coyotes were already up 1-0 when Fernando Ruvalcaba hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 4-0.

Friends fought back in the sixth, getting a two-run single from Tyler Godfrey to cut the deficit in half and then a sacrifice fly by Miles Hartman to climb within a run.

But Garrett Garfield connected on the Coyotes' second three-run blast of the day in the bottom half of the sixth to create another four-run lead for KWU.

Ritter Steinmann made it stand with 3.2 shutout innings of relief to pick up the save for the Coyotes.

Steinmann came on in relief of Brett Maddock, who went 5.1 innings and allowed three runs with four strikeouts to earn the win.

Bernie Socarras and Carlos Rodriguez both had two hits for Friends (27-22), with Jacob Williamson and Tyler Favretto each delivering three hits for KWU (36-13).

Francisco Moscoso started for the Falcons and lasted five innings, allowing four runs and striking out three with four walks. Chance Baker kept the Coyotes off the board for the final 2.2 innings with just one hit allowed.

The Falcons will now play an elimination game vs. third-seeded Ottawa University tomorrow morning (May 2) at 9 am, while the Coyotes advance to a winner's bracket game vs. sixth-seeded McPherson College tomorrow at 12:15 pm.
