Softball Falcons Stay Hot with Sweep Over Sterling College

Sterling, Kan. - Behind another dominant pitching outing from Riley Wertz, Friends powered to a 6–1 win over Sterling to open the doubleheader. Wertz tossed a complete game with 12 strikeouts, allowing just 2 hits and 1 run. The offense was equally sharp. Elena Montoya, Cadence Magana, and Izzy Jones all recorded two-hit games, while Jayden Estabrook and Becca Dunn each drove in runs. Montoya and Estabrook both added doubles to extend scoring opportunities. Friends capitalized on scoring in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, putting the game out of reach with a 3-run sixth.

Game 2 was a pitcher's duel, but the Falcons held on late for a tight 2–1 victory to complete the sweep. Friends plated single runs in the fourth and sixth innings, with Becca Dunn's RBI double in the sixth standing as the game-winner. Dunn finished with two RBIs, and Tamara Lozoya crossed the plate once with a key late-game steal and hustle play.

The Falcons used a trio of pitchers — Kierstan Weitze, Ainsley McGill, and Jenna Ormiston — who combined to hold Sterling to one run on seven hits. Ormiston earned the win with 1.2 innings of solid relief, while Alex Vick earned the save with a clutch final out.
