In Game 1, despite a strong outing from Riley Wertz in the circle, the Falcons fell 3-0 in the opening game of the doubleheader against Evangel University.
Wertz pitched all seven innings, striking out 10 while giving up just three runs on six hits. However, the Falcons' offense couldn't find its rhythm against Evangel's Maddy Meierer, who held Friends to just two hits and struck out seven in a complete game shutout.
Tamara Lozoya laid down a sacrifice bunt and Elena Montoya and Priscilla Mora had the only hits for Friends, but the team left multiple runners on base, unable to convert scoring chances.
In Game 2, the Falcons brought the bats but couldn't slow down the red hot offense of Evangel, falling 10-7 in a back-and-forth slugfest.
Friends fought from behind multiple times and even rallied to tie it 6-6 in the fifth. Priscilla Mora launched a home run and finished with three RBIs. Alex Vick made a strong impression with two doubles and two RBIs, while Izzy Jones added a key RBI sac fly.
Despite the late push, Evangel plated four runs in the top of the seventh, which proved too much to overcome.
Kierstan Weitze, Jenna Ormiston, and Riley Wertz all saw time in the circle, combining for seven innings, seven earned runs, and five strikeouts.
Friends moves to 19-9 overall and 7-3 in KCAC play.
