Riley Wertz delivered a masterclass in Game 1, throwing a perfect game to lead the Falcons to a dominant 10-0 run-rule victory over Bethany College. Wertz retired all 15 batters she faced, striking out 7 and needing just 54 pitches to complete the historic feat. It's the first perfect game for Friends since Stephanie McCarthy on March 25, 2008.
The offense backed her up in a big way, collecting 10 runs on 10 hits. Riley Wertz also helped her own cause at the plate, going 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs. Priscilla Mora and Tamara Lozoya each went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Elena Montoya chipped in three runs scored.
Jayden Estabrook added a double, and Lozoya smashed a triple as the Falcons took full control early, scoring four in the second and six more across the third and fourth to seal the win in five innings.
Friends carried their momentum into Game 2, securing a 6-3 win to complete the sweep. Priscilla Mora and Tamara Lozoya led the charge again, combining for four RBIs. Becca Dunn and Jayden Estabrook each added an RBI as well, keeping the offense steady throughout.
Kierstan Weitze went the distance in the circle, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out one to earn the win.
Mora continued her hot bat with a key double, and the Falcons showed poise late, plating insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings to hold off a late Bethany push.
Friends University improves to 19-7 overall and 7-1 in KCAC play, as they next face Evangel University on Tuesday, March 25th, home at TRYC in Wichita.
