Wichita, Kan. - The Falcons pulled off a dramatic comeback in the opener, rallying late to defeat Benedictine College 6-5. After falling behind early, the Falcons broke through in the 8th inning, to begin the sweep.
Tamara Lozoya delivered in a decisive moment of the game with a clutch home run, driving in three runs. Cadence Magana and Becca Dunn also contributed key RBIs to fuel the late offensive surge. Magana with the winning walk-off single, scoring Angelina Mendoza to push the Falcons to victory in extra innings.
Riley Wertz was steady in the circle, pitching a complete game to earn the win. She allowed five runs on six hits while striking out 11, keeping Friends within striking distance before their late-game rally.
The second game of the doubleheader was another nail-biter, with Friends holding off a late push from Benedictine to secure a 5-4 victory. The Falcons took an early lead, but Benedictine fought back in the fourth inning, briefly pulling ahead with a grand-slam by Benedictines Chloe Strickland.
Elena Montoya, Cadence Magana, and Tamara Lozoya each drove in runs, keeping the offense balanced and productive. Priscilla Mora added a key extra-base hit, and Tamara Lozoya contributed defensively with a sacrifice fly.
Kierstan Weitze picked up the win in the circle, tossing six innings while allowing four runs on nine hits. Riley Wertz came in to close things out in the final frame with a save, securing the sweep for the Falcons.
