Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Top Takeaways from the Women's Basketball Falcons' come from behind win at McPherson

McPherson, Kan. -- The Friends University Falcons needed a rally to win at the McPherson College Bulldogs this evening, and that's what they got in winning 73-63 in KCAC action in McPherson, Kan.

Below are the top takeaways from the Falcon victory that leaves their record at 17-9 overall and in a tie for the second spot in the KCAC with Tabor College at 15-5 in the league.

First half - A Tale of Two Quarters

The Falcons began the game as most would expect, hitting 66.7 percent (8-of-12) from the field and getting a balanced scoring attack of seven points from Abigail Barr and five points from Kori Babcock in building a 21-15 lead. But things would flip in the second quarter, as the Falcons cooled off considerably and hit only 3-of-12 from the field to fall behind 34-32 at the break.

Second Half - Switch Flipped

As all good teams possess, the Falcons were able to flip a switch at both ends in the second half, starting with doubling up the Bulldogs 22-11 in the third quarter to lead 54-45. The Falcons' offense began to click again after halftime, hitting 50 percent from the floor (9-of-18) in the third period despite missing all four of their three-point attempts. In turn, the Falcons stifled the Bulldogs into just a 33.3 (5-of-15) shooting clip in the third. Friends then managed to keep McPherson at arm's length in the fourth quarter to finish off the victory.

Jackson the Closer

The Bulldogs cut the lead down to five at 59-54 with still 5:12 left in the fourth quarter, but Taylor Jackson came through with a critical stretch of two free throws and a layup to stem the tide back in the Falcons' direction. Friends led by at least seven the rest of the way. It was also Jackson that scored at the 6:55 mark of the third quarter to put the Falcons up 40-38. Friends never trailed again in the game.

Rebounding Anomaly

The Falcons won for the first time this season when being outrebounded (35-28). Friends had lost the previous five games when the opposition controlled the boards.

Up Next: The Falcons will play at Southwestern College Wednesday evening (Feb. 19) at 6 pm in Winfield, Kan. for their final road regular season contest.
