Winfield, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons suffered an 82-78 upset loss at the Southwestern College Lady Builders this evening (Feb. 19) in Winfield, Kan.
Even with the setback, the Falcons are still tied for second place in the KCAC after Tabor's loss at Bethel College tonight.
Below are the top takeaways from the Falcons' loss at Southwestern:
Close to the Vest: Neither the Falcons nor the Lady Builders could gain much separation, with the biggest lead for Friends being five points and the final four-point margin representing Southwestern's biggest lead.
Back-and-forth action: In addition to being close, there was also a lot of back-and-forth action with nine ties and 17 lead changes.
Final Sequence: With the game tied for the eighth time, Haven Matthews hit a three to put Southwestern in front. Undeterred, the Falcons came back with a putback by Taylor Jackson and a score inside from Abigail Barr to create the ninth gridlock. But Macey Pond scored to give the Lady Builders the lead again and then hit two free throws to seal the win for Southwestern.
Statistical Oddity: The Falcons lost at Southwestern despite leading in field-goal percentage, rebounding, assists, blocks and steals.
Up Next: The Falcons will conclude the regular season and celebrate Senior Day Saturday (Feb. 22) vs. Bethany College at 3 pm inside the Garvey Center.
