Warner, Okla. – The Friends University Falcons captured today's (Feb. 15) opening game 10-7 to tag the (RV) Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles with their first loss of the 2025 season at Connors State College in Warner, Okla. The Eagles then rebounded and won the second tilt 9-2 to win the weekend series 2-1.
Game One
Connor Hickey put the Eagles in front with a solo homer in the first inning, but the Falcons responded with their own long ball show with a two-run homer by Tyler Godfrey and a solo blast from Nijai Armbrister in the bottom of the second.
The home run continued to play a factor, with Javier Marcial hitting a three-run homer in the third to help put the Falcons in a 6-3 hole.
But Godfrey wouldn't let the Falcons be denied, singling in a run in the fourth and then two more in the sixth to finish a burst of seven unanswered runs for Friends. Bryson Rigsby also had a two-run double in the fourth during the Falcons' explosion that resulted in a 10-6 lead.
Godfrey powered the Falcons with a career-high five RBIs and matched his career-best mark with three hits.
Jaime Baldwin went seven innings and allowed six earned runs with six strikeouts and three walks to be credited with the win. Max Van Dam tossed two scoreless innings to close out the opening game win for Friends.
Game Two
The Eagles were in control of the nightcap throughout, with a two-run homer by Hickey opening the scoring in the third inning and a two-run double by Victor Sanchez along with a solo homer by Marcial contributing to a 7-0 lead.
Zeke Henson homered in the sixth to put the Falcons on the board.
Henson and Melwin Perez each had two hits for Friends (6-6, 1-2 KCAC) in the second game and Sanchez finished with three RBIs for OKWU (13-1, 2-1 KCAC).
Ashton Luera went the distance for the Eagles, allowing one earned run with six strikeouts and three walks over seven innings.
Weather permitting, the Falcons are next scheduled to host Central Christian College Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 18) at 2 pm at West Side Athletic Field. The Falcons' next KCAC series starts next Saturday (Feb. 22) with a twinbill starting at noon at Tabor College.
