Box Score WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons were nipped 10-9 in extra innings in the first game before falling 12-0 in the second tilt to the Tabor College Bluejays in KCAC action today (Feb. 23) at West Side Athletic Field in Wichita. The games were originally scheduled in Hillsboro, Kan. but were moved to West Side due to unplayable field conditions.
Tabor's Marcelo Aguirre and Friends' Bernie Socarras traded blows in a back-and-forth first game slugfest.
Aguirre started the scoring with a two-run homer in the first and then put Tabor up 8-0 with a two-run single in the third.
Socarras helped the Falcons answer big and climb all the way back with a solo homer in the fourth and then a grand slam that put Friends ahead 9-8 in the bottom of the fourth.
After the Bluejays tied the score in the top of the fifth, it remained even until a walk-off single by Mikey Acosta in the 10th gave Tabor the win.
Socarras went 3-of-5 for the Falcons in the first game, while Zeke Henson and Isaias Urriola each had RBI singles. Miles Hartman and Tyler Godfrey also drew bases-loaded walks for Friends.
Acosta went 3-of-4 in the opening game for the Bluejays.
It was Acosta again with a big hit in the nightcap to put Tabor in front, a three-run homer in the bottom of the second.
Another RBI single by Acosta and a two-run single from Aguirre then broke the game open in the sixth for a 9-0 Tabor lead.
Cody Moore had a team-leading three hits for the Bluejays in the second game and Evan Williams struck out eight and allowed five hits over seven shutout innings.
The Falcons will next play a three-game series at No. 12-ranked Kansas Wesleyan University starting with a single-game Friday (Feb. 28) at 3 pm in Salina, Kan.
