WICHITA, Kan. — The No. 4-ranked Friends University Falcons overwhelmed the (RV) Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes 63-6 today (Nov. 1) at Equity Bank Park. The Falcons have now won two straight over the Coyotes after dropping the previous nine games in the series. Friends is also 9-0 on the season, continuing its best start to a season since 2008.
The first quarter began with Friends executing a strong defensive stand, stopping the Coyotes' opening drive after Henry Austad was sacked by
Andrew Arnold for a 2-yard loss on a fourth down. The Coyotes had drove down to the Friends 30 before the Falcon defense stiffened up.
Friends responded with a methodical drive capped by
E'derian Sykes' 12-yard touchdown run at 7:02, followed by a successful extra point by
Truitt Bosher. Later,
K'Vonte Baker got free for a 64-yard touchdown run before finding the end zone again with a 1-yard touchdown to give the Falcons a commanding a 21–0 advantage by the end of the period.
After the Falcons got a stop on fourth and one,
Michael Lopez broke through for a 29-yard touchdown run at the 10:51 mark. Friends continued to break the game open and struck again with a 51-yard touchdown pass from Baker to Lopez. As the half was nearing its end,
Kasey Lehman's interception set up a final scoring opportunity, which Baker converted with a 60-yard touchdown pass to Sykes to extend the lead to 42–0 by halftime.
Lehman was just getting started and promptly picked off another pass on the Coyotes' first possession of the second half and returned it 80 yards for a touchdown. Moments later, Friends capitalized on a fumbled kickoff return, which was recovered by
Elon Conley at the KWU 30 to set up another scoring opportunity. Baker sealed the drive with a 6-yard touchdown run for a 56-0 lead. The period concluded with Friends maintaining defensive pressure, highlighted by
Wetu Kalomo's interception.
Evan Cantu then rushed 39 yards to set up a two-yard scoring plunge with 6:40 left to cap off the Falcons' big offensive performance.
The Falcons will next play their final regular season home game next Saturday (Nov. 8) at 1 pm vs. Sterling College at Adair-Austin Stadium.
