No. 4 Football Falcons capture second straight KCAC Division title with 66-7 victory over Sterling

WICHITA, Kan. — The No. 4-ranked Friends University Falcons clinched their second consecutive KCAC divisional championship, this year winning the Bissell Division with a 66-7 throttling of the Sterling College Warriors in their regular season home finale today (Nov. 8) at Adair-Austin Stadium.

Michael Lopez broke through Sterling College's defense with a 56-yard touchdown rush at the 11:38 mark of the first quarter to give Friends an early lead. Truitt Bosher successfully converted the extra point, extending the advantage to 7-0. Friends maintained defensive pressure, with Jairo Castillo sacking Jeremyah Raguin for a loss of eight yards as the quarter concluded with the Falcons still on top 7-0.

Friends opened the floodgates in the second quarter, beginning with a powerful offensive drive capped by K'Vonte Baker's 6-yard touchdown rush. Lopez's 27-yard run further extended their lead after a string of successful runs from Nick Cordova and Kaden Rigsby. E'derian Sykes then broke through with a 61-yard touchdown rush following a fumble recovery by Wetu Kalomo

After not having a punt return for a touchdown all season, the Falcons got punt return scores on consecutive possessions to put a loud cap on the second quarter explosin. First, Lopez took it the distance for an 80-yard score before Walker Overman found the end zone on a 66-yard punt return to balloon the lead up to 42-0 at the half.

Overman wasn't through and finished a dynamic offensive drive to begin the third quarter with a one-yard score following his 33-yard run that set up the scoring opportunity. Sterling attempted to respond, but the Friends defense held strong, forcing a turnover on downs at the 8-yard line. Later in the quarter, with just over two minutes remaining, Overman broke free for a 64-yard touchdown run to make it 56-7.

Friends then got a 28-yard field goal from Bosher and Joey Millspaugh later capped an 80-yard drive with a 3-yard touchdown run with 1:56 remaining to put a bow on the victory.

The Falcons ended the day with a season-high 598 rushing yards, while holding the Warriors to zero net rushing yards.

Friends, now 10-0 on the season and 4-0 in the Bissell Division, will wrap up the regular season at the University of Saint Mary next Saturday (Nov. 15) at 1 pm in Leavenworth, Kan.
